DCAf has been saving horses from slaughter many years. There are many horses out there that are lame, underweight, and too wild to be ridden. some have been abused. Those horses take much time to trust the trainers and people around them. Charlie Motley and Mikey Reed are two the many volunteers that work with the horses to be rehabbed at DCAF.
Giving our time to find these wonderful horses a home is worth it.
Every year Disabled Children's Assistance Fund donates time and horses for the children in th eNew River Area.
Black Knight was a rescue. His feet were very long. Our farrier had to trim his feet a little every 6 weeks. He said his feet could not be trimmed too fast as other parts of the feet had to grow our t the shoe. DCAF has had Knight for a year waiting for his feet to grow and trying to put some weight on him. He was recently adopted by a senior lady to ride and care for him.
Horses bring people together. Volunteers enjoy washing and grooming the horses.
We rescue horses that are in horse slaughter sales or take in horses that people can no longer feed or take care of.
We bring the horses back to health and fix their feet and train them to be able to be adopted. Many hours of training go into the horses as many have been abused or have never been broke to ride. We keep these horses until we can find a new home so these horses can be loved by their new owner.
